The MIDO brand, created in 1918 by Georges Schaeren, an experienced Swiss watchmaker, and derived from the Spanish "Yo mido" meaning "I measure", quickly became a byword for technical innovation. This was followed by the Ocean Star collection in 1959 with a revolutionary monocoque case, reducing any risk of water resistance of the case back.
