A myth

The story of this monument to watchmaking begins in the early 1950s. For several years already, international and transcontinental flights had been developing. Pilots had to cross oceans and land in a different time zone. Pan American World Airways came up with the idea of ordering a watch that could read the time in two time zones simultaneously. The GMT-Master was born!

The basics

The "GMT-Master II" reference 16710 was introduced in 1988/89 and produced until 2007. The 16710 is equipped with the Rolex caliber 3185 enabling it to set the hour hand in one-hour jumps independently of the 24-hour hand, differentiating it from the "GMT-Master" reference 16750 released at the same time, which meanwhile has a caliber 3075 without the independent hour hand. This first series model (R series) dates back to 1988 and benefits from modern technical enhancements (sapphire crystal, "armored" bracelet, circled hour markers) while having that extra vintage soul that makes its charm: a 40mm case with pierced lugs, a tritium dial/ hands set and a fully satin-finished bracelet.

As we like to say, "neo-vintage" timepieces are often the best of both worlds. This specific piece is entirely original and in excellent condition.
