Timekeeping by Longines

Longines has over 100 years' experience in developing watches that indicate several time zones. The first model was presented in 1908, a pocket watch designed primarily for aviators and, more broadly, for the aeronautical industry. Longines established its reputation in this sector over the years by constantly developing its Spirit collection.

Movement

This new Longines Spirit Zulu Time full steel model, presented on a charcoal dial with vintage yellow indexes on a steel bracelet, features the brand new L844.4 manufacture calibre with a power reserve of up to 72 hours. The great novelty offered by the Swiss brand is the diameter of this special model, 39 mm. The different time zones are indicated by an additional hand and a green ceramic bi-directional rotating bezel with 24-hour graduation. Finally, the movement is certified as a Chronometer by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres).

Good to know

Why Zulu ? This term is often used in the aviation, naval and military sectors, and is the military term for UTC. The time is set at the 0° meridian (zero degrees), which explains the other names given to the term Z-Time or Zero TIme. This code was born out of the desire of pilots to communicate by radio. The Z in Z-Time became Zebra and then Zulu when the NATO phonetic alphabet evolved.
