Drawing on its experience in the design of diving watches, the Japanese manufacturer presents a watch that fully complies with the strict ISO standards, while respecting the typical codes of a Grand Seiko watch. Reliable, precise, durable and easy to use, this SBGH289 offers everything a diver needs.

A true tool watch, the superfluous has no place here. Indeed, the watch focuses on readability, with a sleek, matte blue dial to limit reflections and make it easier to read. Also with a view to legibility, two differently shaped hands and oversized applied hour markers are used to tell the time at a glance. Large quantities of Lumibrite, a luminescent material exclusive to the brand, are applied to these various elements to provide a high contrast with the dial and thus maximum visibility. A date display is located at three o'clock.

This reference has a 43.8 mm case and a 316L stainless steel bracelet. With Dia-Shield treatment, the case and bracelet together guarantee high resistance to scratching and corrosion. Like all Grand Seiko watches, a huge amount of finishing work has been carried out on the case and bracelet, with an alternation between brushed and Zaratsu polished areas, the brand's signature. A shiny black unidirectional bezel and a slightly domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment tops it all off.

The strap has an ingenious diving extension system at the buckle, allowing the strap size to be adjusted quickly. The whole thing weighs 206 grams.

Finally, this watch is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 200 meters thanks to its screw-down crown.

Mechanical side

Grand Seiko has chosen to equip its diving watch with a Hi-Beat 36,000 vibrations/hour 9S85 manufacture caliber. This choice is not insignificant, because such a frequency allows for extreme precision. With this very high frequency, the second hand turns with exemplary fluidity.

The movement offers a comfortable power reserve of 55 hours (a real achievement for a mechanism requiring a lot of energy), and uses 37 jewels. This caliber, which is designed, manufactured, assembled, adjusted and tested at the Shizuku-Ishi Watch studio, has chronometry standards higher than the COSC, with an average precision of -3 to +5 seconds per day.

Unfortunately, the movement is not visible, as the watch has a solid case back to guarantee perfect water resistance.

The package

This Grand Seiko Sport is a NOS (New Old Stock) model, in new condition and in perfect working order. It comes with its box and all its documents. It also has a five-year GS warranty.
