Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Titanium Diver's Spring Drive 43,8 mm Full Set NOS
A NOS (New Old Stock) model, this SLGA015 is the very first Grand Seiko diver's watch designed in the Evolution 9 style. Made of high-intensity titanium and powered by the impressive 9RA5 Spring Drive caliber, it combines high performance, wearer comfort and optimal legibility. Its textured dial is inspired by the ocean depths surrounding the Japanese archipelago, reflecting the power and beauty of the Japanese seas.
Le style Evolution 9
In 2020, Grand Seiko introduced a new design philosophy called Evolution 9 Style. While it preserves the fundamental principles of Grand Seiko style, the design philosophy that has guided Grand Seiko since 1967, but adapts them for the new generation by setting new standards in legibility, aesthetics and comfort, while taking its already impressive designs and technology to new levels. The refinement of the Evolution 9 series includes the deployment of new materials to achieve more sophisticated and comfortable watches. Take for example the SGLA015's titanium case and bracelet, made from a lighter and brighter high intensity titanium.
A high-tech, lightweight and ultra-precise mechanical dive watch
Grand Seiko designed this watch with the Kuroshio Current, also known as the Black Stream, in mind. Indeed, the oceans surrounding the Japanese archipelago are agitated by particularly powerful currents, the largest of which is the Kuroshio Current, "black current" in Japanese. This current, one of the most important ocean currents in the world, flows along the Japanese coast to the North Pacific. The Kuroshio Current causes strong, sometimes violent tides, which have inspired the black depth of the richly textured dial of this new diver's watch.
The case of this SLGA015 measures 43.8 mm in diameter, 13.8 mm thick and 51.5 mm from lug to lug. It is made entirely of high-intensity titanium, to offer increased resistance to scratches and corrosion, while ensuring a significant reduction in weight compared to steel, which guarantees extreme comfort on the wrist. Like all diving watches, this Grand Seiko is water resistant to a depth of 200 metres. The bezel insert is made of ceramic, which is a first for a GS dive watch.
As watch lovers know, the finishing on Grand Seiko models is always exceptional. This timepiece proves it once again, with its case featuring an attractive mix of Zaratsu polished and satin-finished surfaces. This complex contrast of finishing techniques brings the watch and its geometry to life, and highlights the unique qualities of titanium, between light and shadow. One only has to look at the shapes of the case to see this, especially the crown guard, which is unlike anything we have seen before.
The SGLA015 represents everything that Grand Seiko is known for and points to the future of the brand as it continues to refine and revolutionise the world of watchmaking!
Contrast, depth and LumiBrite
The readability of this timepiece is exceptional, thanks in part to the deep contrast between the dial and the hands, the precision of the manufacture and the LumiBrite that generously covers the hands and indexes. In addition, each hand has a different shape, as does the 12 o'clock index, making it possible to read the time accurately at a glance, even at depth where legibility is paramount. The use of a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside also helps to eliminate excessive reflections on the dial.
Small details but of extreme importance when talking about a professional diving watch!
An exceptional Spring Drive calibre
This diving watch is powered by a Spring Drive movement, a unique watchmaking technology exclusive to the Seiko Group. It generates energy similar to that of traditional mechanical watches but combines it with an electronic regulator to provide a level of precision unmatched by any other mechanical watch. The development of the Spring Drive was only possible because Grand Seiko is one of the few watch manufacturers to master the production of both mechanical and quartz watches. In addition to being accurate to within ±10 seconds per month, the movement is very fine thanks to its "Offset Magic Lever". The movement has a power reserve indicator on the dial to provide additional safety when diving. This calibre delivers a comfortable power reserve of 120 hours thanks to its double barrel.
