The story

The history of the Breitling "Navitimer" began in 1952 at the request of the "Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association" (AOPA), the powerful American pilots' union, which made it its official watch. It became the brand's most emblematic chronograph, thanks to its integrated slide rule, which enabled pilots to perform unprecedented calculations, notably concerning average speed, distance flown, fuel consumption and rate of climb. The star of the collections remains the famous reference 806, equipped with a Venus 178 movement like the model presented here, which is a veritable icon for any aviation chronograph collector and whose design is instantly recognizable.

It has been worn over the years by numerous celebrities such as Miles Davis, Serge Gainsbourg, as well as Formula 1 champions Jim Clark and Graham Hill.

The example we're offering in this episode of Lepage 10h10 is in beautiful condition! The Black & White "Twin jet" dial has no major flaws, the case still has its "facets", only its hands have been changed in the meantime. On this model, we find the famous bezel with its "notched" edge.

This 806 is powered by the Venus 178 caliber, a mechanical chronograph movement designed and developed by Venus Ebauches SA in Moutier in the mid-1930s. Manufactured from 1940 to 1966, the Venus 178 is highly appreciated by collectors today. It stands out for its quality, reliability and also for the mark it leaves on the history of Swiss watchmaking.
