The Regent, a diamond considered the most beautiful in the French crown, was discovered in South India in 1698. When it was discovered, it was nearly 426 carats, but in order to give it optimum brilliance it was cut into a "brilliant" shape by an English jeweler, giving it a caratage of 141 carats after cutting. This fabulous gem was stolen in 1792, but luckily it was found the year after. This diamond is now on display in the Galerie d'Apollon at the Louvre.
