Watch Ressence Type 3 BBB titanium DLC black automatic dial black strap 44 mm

At the forefront of watchmaking and micromechanical innovation 

The Belgian Manufacture Ressence is constantly seeking to offer a new vision of Fine Watchmaking. A vision that abolishes the aesthetic and technical limits of traditional watchmaking, in order to place itself at the forefront of innovation. And it is with the Type 3, a model launched in 2013, that Benoît Mintiens and his team manage to achieve a real break with what was known until now.   The first oil-filled mechanical watch, the Type 3 required years of research and development to achieve a true feat of Haute Horlogerie. It uses physics in a way that no other watch has done before. Designed with a "water drop" effect, which makes its dial crystal clear to the user, the Type 3 both expresses watchmaking tradition through its patented ROCS - Ressence Orbital Convex System - and reinvents it through new micromechanical technologies such as magnetic transmission.   

A unique design for 2022 

The Type 3 BBB is based on the original Type 3 model: a 44 mm titanium case without a crown, with an edge-to-edge sapphire crystal on the front and back of the watch, which then looks like a perfectly smooth pebble, worn down by time and water. Indeed, Benoît Mintiens likes to propose objects with an organic design. But for the first time in the Type 3 range, this BBB features a polished black DLC case, making this Type 3 look like a black pebble.Mais la marque Ressence ne s'arrête pas là. Pour un impact maximal, de nombreuses modifications ont été apportées au cadran de la Type 3. Les couleurs ont été retirées des indicateurs, pour ne laisser que le blanc et le gris, afin de contraster avec le cadran noir. Pour une approche plus minimaliste, le cadran de l'indicateur des seconde a été retiré, afin de s'approcher davantage du design de la première Type 3 B ayant remporté un titre au GPHG. Le SuperLiminova appliqué sur les indexs et les "aiguilles" a est passé du bleu ou vert.
Son affichage est géré par un module exclusif, composé de disques et de cadrans qui gravitent continuellement les uns autour des autres. Il en résulte une lecture de l’heure plus claire. Les informations s’affichent en effet sur un seul plan, un peu comme des mots écrits sur du papier, rendant la lecture plus aisée, car intuitive et 2 dimensionnelle. Son cadran est inondé dans 37,5 ml d'huile, ce qui permet une lisibilité sous tous les angles possibles. 

For the case back, which allows the time to be set and the mechanism to be wound, Ressence has chosen to tint the sapphire crystal, then engrave the text, which is then painted white to contrast. Finally, the Type 3BBB is mounted on an anthracite "honeycomb" leather strap, previously found on Ressence's Type 2A.

Le Ressence Orbital Convex System 3 (ROCS 3) 

The unique time display is only possible with the patented ROCS 3 system, which replaces the hands with continuously rotating discs on a main dial that itself makes one complete revolution in 60 minutes. This module is curved to match the curvature of the sapphire crystal that covers it. This mechanism is driven by the minute axis of a customised self-winding base calibre 2824/2. It is composed of 215 parts, entirely made of grade 5 titanium.   The entire device displays 6 pieces of information: hours, minutes, second hand (over 360 seconds), day of the week, date and oil temperature. This module and calibre assembly has a 36-hour running time and a balance with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.  

To operate in this viscous universe, many innovations had to be introduced, such as a magnetic transmission to link the calibre, present in the lower part of the watch, and the ROCS module, immersed in the oil.  In order to cope with the temperature variations of the oil, a self-compensating system with 7 bellows has been implemented. 

Intuitive visually and in the movement, discreet in its aesthetics, the Type BBB is a perfect example of 21st century watchmaking according to Ressence. It eliminates optical complexities and superfluous elements to create a timeless object that arouses and inspires the imagination.
