The Pitch

As part of its "Change for the Better" mission, the Oris watch brand partnered with the Carl Brashear Foundation in 2015 to help it give hope to many. Carl Brashear is one of the 20th century's most determined figures to triumph over adversity. Indeed, he overcame many challenges due to his background and then his disability and would become the first African-American diver in the history of the U.S. Navy and the first scuba diver to undergo amputation. In 2018, Oris introduces its second model made in partnership with the Carl Brashear Foundation, an automatic uni-compax chrono in bronze!

Getting to know each other

So someone so special deserved such a special watch. The case, bezel, crown and pushers of this Oris "Carl Brashear Chronograph" are made of bronze. This is the second time that Oris has offered this particular alloy for one of its watches. Bronze ages over time with moisture and contact with the skin, which means that each of the 2,000 watches made will have a unique look.

A balanced dial also known as "uni-compax" is found on this model. This layout gives the watch a classic yet vintage face, enhanced by the absence of a date window and the use of "Old Radium" superluminova. The 30-minute counter is located at 3 o'clock, opposite the small seconds counter at 9 o'clock. The dial has a nice dark blue color, which blends perfectly with the bronze. This watch is dressed with a vintage brown leather strap. Finally, some additional finishing touches have been made on the back of the case, we can find the engravings of the diver's helmet and the famous quote from Carl Brashear.

As for the mechanics, this "Carl Brashear Chronograph" is powered by an Oris Calibre 771 movement. It is equipped with a comfortable 48-hour power reserve.
