Seiko and diving
The Japanese Manufacture Seiko is known by watch lovers as one of the most reliable and legitimate brands in the world of diving watches. Since the launch of its first diver's watch introduced in 1965, Seiko is dedicated to exceeding the expectations of divers with its innovative technology, creating timepieces that will help you cope with deep water obstacles in a wide variety of situations around the world. These timepieces have proven to be equal to the rigors of the environment and have received praise from professional divers.
Today, Seiko continues to push the boundaries of sports watches, and dive watches in particular. Continuous improvements over the decades in safety, reliability, readability and ease of use have made Seiko a leader in the field of diving watches.
A 1968 Diver's with polar roots
Seiko has enjoyed great success with the "Save the Ocean" special edition watches, which has been growing year by year since 2018, when Seiko partnered with Fabien Cousteau, grandson of legendary explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. By combining the rugged style of its dive watches with unique, textured dials, the Manufacture has managed to create one of the most popular sub-collections.
This Prospex watch reference SPB385J1 is the modern watch reinterpretation of one of the Japanese brand's most iconic watches! A contemporary version of the original model released in 1968, it was at its time a revolutionary watch with 300m water resistance and a Hi-Beat 36000 automatic movement, a world first at the time! With a one-piece structure, unidirectional rotating bezel, and screw-down protective crown, this timepiece pushed the boundaries of precision, durability, and ease of use in watches for professional and amateur divers.
For this Save The Ocean edition, this new model is true to its heritage in terms of design, but is updated to meet the standards of today's Prospex collection. The case design is inherited from the 1968 original, and the case sides are mirror finished. The unidirectional rotating bezel edge allows for easy control. This watch offers comfort and fit on the wrist by adopting a narrower case size of 42mm. Characterized by an intricately textured glacier blue dial, this watch captures the power of the polar glaciers that shape the land and seascapes of the Arctic and Antarctic. These hostile territories have been an endless exploration laboratory for the endurance and reliability of Seiko divers since the first Seiko dive watch in 1965. The indexes and hands are coated with Lumibrite to ensure optimal readability in the darkest of conditions.
This watch is water resistant to 200 meters and is presented on a steel bracelet with a secure extension and clasp. The case has an ultra-hard coating and the sapphire crystal is equipped with an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface to ensure great readability from all angles.
Finally, this model comes with a new three-link stainless steel bracelet, whose slim profile allows it to fit firmly and comfortably on the wrist. This limited edition comes with an additional bracelet made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. It was created using a traditional Japanese braiding technique called Seichu.
Technical side: a new GMT caliber
This Prospex Diver's 200 GMT embeds the all-new self-winding manufacture caliber 6R54. It is based on one of the Japanese firm's must-have movements that is notably used in most of the brand's watches: the 6R35.It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a comfortable 72-hour power reserve, enough to allow you to alternate with your other watches without having to systematically wind it. But this new caliber also brings a new function: the GMT!
It's GMT hand can be set independently in one-hour increments without interrupting the local time hands and allows the wearer to read the time of a second time zone at a glance.
