Sharp Edged Series 3: The concept

Introduced in 2020, Seiko's Presage Sharp Edged collection quickly earned a reputation for its angular silhouette, distinctively patterned dial, and light-reflecting hands and indexes that enhanced legibility. Revealing a powerful expression of Japanese art and aesthetics combined with mechanical watchmaking, this collection demonstrated Seiko's expertise and advanced manufacturing techniques. Today, the Sharp Edged collection welcomes a new automatic movement offering three days of power reserve and a new design.

A new design

Like every watch in the Sharp Edged collection, the dial of this new creation features the distinctive "asanoha" motif, which appeared on Japanese textiles over 1,000 years ago, during the Heian period, and is traditionally associated with a desire for growth and success. Composed of several layers, its three-dimensional dial comes to life through stamping, color gradation and coating of the top layer.

The improvements to the Sharp Edged collection are not limited to the mechanism and also incorporate a double-curved sapphire crystal, which gives this new watch a sleek look on the wrist. This new glass, with which the dial appears closer and brighter, improves legibility while highlighting every detail. The new watch's indexes and seconds hand have been redesigned. The indexes are sharper and point towards the center of the dial, while the seconds hand, slightly curved towards the indexes, features a more pronounced, angular counterweight with a pointed finish.

A new open heart movement

A new 6R series movement - caliber 6R5J - makes its debut in this latest Sharp Edged collection models, offering them a three-day power reserve. This 21,600 vibrations per hour automatic movement indicates hours, minutes and seconds, and features a 24-hour sub-dial at 6 o'clock. An attractive cut-out at 9 o'clock reveals the movement's escapement. The dial features the asanoha or "hemp leaf" motif, a signature of the Sharp Edged collection.

To emphasize the power reserve, the dial bears the inscription "Automatique 3 jours". This new caliber 6R5J, is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback.
