The 5 Sports watch features a dial chosen in honor of the Laurel. The hands, for example, are blue, while red numerals are used for the 24-hour scale. This watch is a limited edition of 6,000 pieces.

The story

The Seiko story begins in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opens a workshop in Ginza to repair and sell clocks. In 1913, his company produced Japan's first wristwatch, then continued to innovate to advance the art of watchmaking, including the first quartz wristwatch in 1969 and the revolutionary Spring Drive technology in 1999.

In 2023, Seiko celebrates the 110th anniversary of its first wristwatch by launching a series of commemorative timepieces, including this new 5 Sports watch which, like all the timepieces in the series, draws inspiration from Seiko's rich technical and design heritage.

An iconic collection

Appearing in the 1960s, the Seiko 5 was at the time a new standard in the world of affordable mechanical watches. Many watch enthusiasts even discovered watchmaking thanks to one of these models that was as affordable as it was robust and reliable! Synonymous with reliability, durability and performance, these values are unquestionably appreciated by mechanical watch enthusiasts the world over. Today, this iconic collection is enriched by the new Field line, watches with a military look, ideal for everyday use!

Inspired by vintage military watches

Seiko draws inspiration from its earlier creations for this new "field watch": remember the SNK807, with which many enthusiasts started watchmaking! This "Laurel" is reasonably sized, 39.4 mm in diameter and 13.1 mm thick. Its steel case is fully brushed for a "toolwatch" look, and offers water resistance to a depth of 100 meters.

The military inspiration displayed by this Seiko 5 Sports Field comes first and foremost from its cream dial: matt grained texture, large Arabic numeral hour markers lined with a military-style 24-hour scale, triangular index at 12 o'clock, large luminescent hands, luminescent square studs in the extension of the hour markers... This dial was also chosen in honor of the Laurel. The hands, for example, are blue, while red numerals are used for the 24-hour scale

This watch is mounted on a handsome five-link stainless steel bracelet, and a second brown leather strap comes in its case.

Technical side

This Seiko 5 Sports Field "Laurel" features the Manufacture 4R36 self-winding caliber. This is one of the Japanese firm's essential movements, used in most Presage and Prospex watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible. What's more, it features a highly appreciated "Day / Date" complication!

In brief:

  • A limited edition of 6,000
  • A manufacture caliber
  • Incredible value for money!
