The first IWC Portofino watch was designed in 1984 to embody the happy marriage of elegance and mechanical refinement. This collection is a sure bet for complication enthusiasts wanting a piece of fine watchmaking. Indeed, the model we have the pleasure of presenting to you today is one of the jewels in the IWC Portofino family. But first, let's focus on the design. This elegant 45mm round stainless steel case features an efficiently laid-out silver dial. There's a small seconds at 6 o'clock, a power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock and a date at 3 o'clock. Hours and minutes are indicated by leaf hands passing over applied rose gold hour-markers. The whole is protected by a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. A caliber with an exceptional power reserve

This hand-wound mechanical caliber was developed and manufactured by the Manufacture in Schaffhausen. Drawing on its watchmaking tradition, IWC wanted to demonstrate all its expertise with this 59210 caliber. It has the dimensions of a pocket-watch movement, but with the construction and precision demanded by a 21st-century watch. Its design moves away from Swiss codes, towards German standards. Equipped with a single barrel, it offers a power reserve of 192 hours, or 8 battery days, even though it is technically capable of offering 9 days of autonomy. In fact, IWC's watchmakers decided to limit the power reserve to 192 hours, in order to prevent the spring from relaxing completely, thus ensuring isochronism and precision. Speaking of precision, the balance oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a Breguet-type balance spring.

The technical side is not the only strong point of this caliber. The design and finish of this movement are also a model of their kind. There are two large bridges, finely adorned with Côtes de Genève, and in the center the engraving "Probus Scafusia", meaning "Proven product of Schaffhausen".

The Italian leather strap is original and made by the Santoni shoe company. It features an exceptional patina and is accompanied by the original pin buckle.
