The Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver's HBF001J1 marks the return of one of Japan's most iconic dive watches. Powered by the new in-house Calibre 8L45, it combines legendary heritage with professional-grade performance, featuring 300-metre water resistance, a ceramic bezel and an impressive 72-hour power reserve.
The return of a Japanese diving legend
In 1968, Seiko forever changed the world of professional dive watches with the launch of its first 300-metre water-resistant diver. Equipped with a high-beat movement and engineered for demanding underwater exploration, it quickly became one of the brand's most celebrated creations. More than fifty years later, the Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver's HBF001J1 pays tribute to this milestone by combining the unmistakable design of the original with the latest innovations developed by the Japanese manufacture.
Built for professional diving
Crafted from stainless steel, the 42.6 mm case faithfully echoes the proportions and distinctive silhouette of the historic 1968 model. Its screw-down crown positioned at 4 o'clock enhances comfort while preserving the watch's iconic character. Designed to withstand the most demanding underwater environments, the Marinemaster offers a professional-grade water resistance of 300 metres and features a unidirectional ceramic bezel that delivers exceptional durability and precise dive timing.
A dual-curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface ensures outstanding legibility in all lighting conditions. Generously applied Lumibrite on the hands, indexes and bezel guarantees excellent visibility, whether exploring the depths or wearing the watch in everyday situations.
A dial inspired by the depths of the ocean
The HBF001J1 features a deep black dial with a refined satin finish designed to minimise reflections underwater. Its subtle texture creates remarkable visual depth, while the faceted indexes capture the light beautifully to maximise contrast and readability. Functional, elegant and instantly recognisable, the dial perfectly embodies the Marinemaster philosophy.
The new in-house Calibre 8L45
Powering the watch is the brand-new Seiko Calibre 8L45, an in-house automatic movement designed and assembled at the prestigious Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Japan. Developed specifically for Seiko's premium professional dive watches, it delivers an accuracy of -5/+10 seconds per day, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
The movement also features manual winding and a hacking seconds function for precise time setting, highlighting Seiko's renowned expertise in high-performance mechanical watchmaking.
Designed for everyday comfort
The stainless steel bracelet is equipped with a newly developed clasp featuring an easy micro-adjustment system, allowing the fit to be adjusted instantly without tools. Whether compensating for wrist expansion throughout the day or fitting over a diving suit, this innovative mechanism provides exceptional comfort and versatility.
Representing the pinnacle of Seiko's professional diving expertise, the Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver's HBF001J1 successfully bridges the gap between historical inspiration and modern engineering. Combining iconic design, cutting-edge mechanical performance and exceptional reliability, it stands as one of the finest expressions of the Marinemaster name and an outstanding choice for collectors, diving enthusiasts and lovers of Japanese watchmaking alike.
