Appearing in the 60s, Seiko 5s were at the time a new standard in the world of affordable mechanical watches. Many watch enthusiasts even discovered watchmaking thanks to one of these models that was as affordable as it was robust and reliable! For some time now, Seiko has been collaborating with several other Japanese and international companies to create limited edition collaborations. These have included tributes to Brian May, Naruto watches, Street Fighter and Ultra Seven. Today, Seiko presents a limited-edition creation in tribute to the Hong Kong-American actor Bruce Lee, who wore 5 Sports throughout his life. This commemorative watch pays tribute to his many achievements as a martial artist, actor and cultural icon.

An unique inspiration !

For this special edition, Seiko takes as its base the Seiko 5 Sports model: 42.5 mm in diameter and 134 mm thick. But this anniversary model pays homage to a man whose legacy lives on through his many achievements as a martial artist, actor and cultural icon.

The watch's dial is illustrated by a drawing of a dragon, which Bruce Lee drew during his lifetime. The bezel features characters representing the spirit of Jeet Kune Do and the phrase "using no way as a way, using no limitations as a limitation". The black leather strap with silver stitching evokes the clothes worn in kung fu. Its interior features the same dragon design as the dial. The watch is also offered with an additional nylon strap featuring the design of the iconic yellow tracksuit worn by Bruce Lee.

The case back is illustrated with the Jeet Kune Do coat of arms, based on the yin and yang symbol, it also features the words "Limited Edition" and the serial number. The watch is presented in a special box bearing Bruce Lee's signature.

Finally, to commemorate this collaboration, the watch is presented in a specially designed case bearing Bruce Lee's signature.

Portrait of Bruce Lee

Born in San Francisco, Bruce Lee was a film actor, martial artist, director and teacher whose career spanned continents. He became an international star with the resounding success of the film The Big Boss (1971), but tragically died at the age of 32, while filming Enter the Dragon (1973). A multi-faceted creator and martial arts expert, Bruce Lee founded "Jeet Kune Do", which translates as "the way of the intercepting fist". His work continues to attract fans the world over.

Technical side

This Seiko 5 Sports embeds the self-winding Manufacture caliber 4R36. This is one of the Japanese firm's must-have movements, which is notably used in most Presage and Prospex watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible. What's more, it offers a most appreciable "Day / Date" complication!
