Appearing in the 1960s, the Seiko 5 was a new standard in the world of affordable mechanical watches. Many watch enthusiasts even discovered watchmaking thanks to one of these models that was as affordable as it was robust and reliable! Synonymous with reliability, durability and performance, these values are unquestionably appreciated by mechanical watch enthusiasts the world over.

To celebrate the 55th anniversary of its 5 Sports line, the brand presents a new limited edition of 15,555 pieces, which recreates identically the first Seiko 5 Sports of 1968, reference -6106-8120! It was this reference that attracted so many fans in the late 1960s and early 1970s and remains so popular today on the vintage market. The dial, bezel and 39.5 mm case of this new creation transport enthusiasts back to the exciting early days of the Seiko 5 Sports, which then took the watchmaking world by storm!

Design side: an almost identical reissue!

For this reissue, Seiko decided to respect the shape and dimensions of the original as closely as possible: 39.5 mm in diameter. And to mark the occasion, the original Seiko 5 Sports logo has been relaunched at 12 o'clock in honor of this 55th anniversary, with the word and phrase "SPORTS" appearing at 6 o'clock, as on the first versions.

For a vintage feel, the unique look of the bracelet has been retained in the re-creation. It has been modernized with contemporary materials for a fit and feel suitable for everyday use. Finally, the caseback bears the words "Limited Edition" and the serial number.

Finally, this watch comes in a box specially designed to evoke the vintage ambience of the era when the original Seiko 5 Sports watch saw the light of day.

Technical side

This Seiko 5 Sports Recréation embarks the self-winding Manufacture caliber 4R36, worthy descendant of the caliber 6119 of the 1968 model! This is one of the Japanese firm's must-have movements, used in most Presage and Prospex watches. It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Designed to be reliable and robust, its construction is as simple as possible! This movement also features a "Day / Date" complication on the same axis, a real innovation at the time of the Seiko 5 launch!
