This Monaco is surely one of TAG Heuer's most desirable modern timepieces: inspired by the watch worn by Steeve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans, this Monaco "Generation 3" features a 38 mm case, a plexiglass crystal and a dial with white registers, as on the original version.

The story

In 1969, Heuer made its mark with the release of the Monaco, which became the first square, waterproof automatic chronograph! The release of the film "Le Mans" in 1971 propelled the Monaco to international prominence thanks to Steve McQueen, who wore a Heuer Monaco in the film, providing a series of iconic images that even today are a central element of TAG Heuer's marketing campaigns.

The original version of the Heuer Monaco was available for less than 10 years, having been introduced in 1969 and the last version produced around 1978. TAG Heuer's reissues of the Monaco, however, have met with great success, having been offered in a variety of models over the past 25 years. Indeed, the Monaco chronograph may have been ahead of its time in the 1970s, but it has established itself as a modern classic in the 21st century.

The model

With the success of the CS2111, the first true "re-edition" of the Monaco in 1998, TAG Heuer added the model to the permanent range, changing the model to CW2111 and adding "TAG Heuer" to the dial, rather than just the Heuer logo.

In 2003, the brand decided to add a blue-dialed version of the Monaco (CW2113) to its catalog, using the color scheme and layout of the model worn by Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans. This first reissue of the "McQueen Monaco" featured white registers, as on the original version, with bright red hands for the chronograph and second hand.

Fittingly, that's the model we're bringing you today in this Lepage 10h10 episode! This CW2113 reference features a smaller case than current versions, with reasonable dimensions of 38 x 38 mm, a sublime blue sunray dial as well as a plexiglass crystal, perfect for that "neo-vintage" look we love so much!

This watch is powered by TAG Heuer Calibre 17, a modular chronograph movement based on ETA 2894, which offers 42 hours of power reserve.
