The "Bombay Star" is one of the best-known sapphires. In addition to its size, its distinctive feature is that it is a star sapphire, meaning that it exhibits an optical phenomenon called "asterism", where a star appears to float on the surface of the stone when light hits it in a specific way. The Star of Bombay is one of the world's largest and most famous star sapphires. It weighs around 182 carats (approx. 36.4 grams) and has a deep, rich blue color. This exceptional sapphire comes from Sri Lanka, a reputed source of high-quality sapphires, and has been cut into a cabochon, a smooth, rounded shape that enhances the asterism effect. When light is directed onto the stone in a particular way, it reveals a distinct six-pointed star floating on its surface. It is this phenomenon that has earned it its name, the Bombay Star.

To create the illusion of the pendant's triangular shape despite the round sapphire, we've strategically placed two claws three-quarters of the way around the gem, while the third is positioned at noon. A fine bélière is carefully placed above this third claw, ensuring balanced wear of the pendant. Visually arresting, this necklace also features an elegant contrast between its 18k yellow gold chain, and the blue of the gemstone it supports.
