The short story

Tudor launched the Ranger in the 1960s. It remained in the catalog until the late 1980s. Tudor re-launched the Ranger range in 2014 with a 41mm case and a design directly inspired by its ancestor. The original Ranger was presented in a rather thin 34 mm Oyster case, without date and with a mechanical hand-wound movement. Tudor has evolved the Ranger with an automatic movement with date, and this is one of them that we present here.

What you need to know

This Tudor Ranger is equipped with a case and a crown signed Rolex. Its dial and movement are stamped Tudor. It was common for Tudor to use Rolex parts except for its dials and movements until the 1990s. The inside back of the case of this Ranger is signed "CRS", which indicates that it was made by C.R. Spillman S.A., famous for having made many Daytona hand-wound cases... The design of the Tudor Ranger is very similar to that of the Rolex Explorer. The Rangers were considered as excellent field watches because they were very legible, water-resistant and their 34 mm case did not interfere. The Ranger Date has very nice details that distinguish it from the Explorer and other field watches of the time. It features Arabic numerals at six, nine and twelve o'clock and a unique "shovel" design hour hand. The dial shows "Tudor Prince Oysterdate" on the upper part and "Ranger" in red on the lower part. If you are looking for one of these Tudor Ranger, be careful because vintage Ranger watches are among the most counterfeit vintage watches. Original copies, like this one, become very difficult to find. Please note: this watch does not have its original strap.
