Why give a piece of birth jewelry

A piece of jewelry to express your love

Precious and long-lasting, jewelry is a perfect birth gift, whether it is thought to be given to the mother or the baby. An object of emotion that allows you to express your love and send a strong message, it also has the advantage of being made unique by a personalized engraving.

To be kept for a lifetime, the birth jewel is worn on a daily basis and can be passed on from mother to child once the child has grown up enough to understand the full importance of the symbol it conveys...

Giving a gold birth jewel

In order for it to never lose its beauty and to last through the years, remaining as beautiful as it was on the first day (as long as it is well maintained and cared for), we advise you to choose a piece of jewelry fashioned from platinum or 18k gold (750/1000), the finest quality of gold that can be used in jewelry.

To match this criterion of excellence, all the gold jewelry sold on our e-shop is made of 18k gold. If you want to know more about this material, feel free to check out our article on the subject! Timeless and considered hypoallergenic, white, yellow or rose gold is a precious and unchanging metal, as beautiful alone as it is adorned with precious, fine or ornamental stones...

Birthstones, to give a unique piece of jewelry

Birthstones: origin of the calendar

Do you know about birthstones? Far from being a recent invention, the idea of birthstones is said to date back to antiquity and is linked to biblical references and the twelve tribes of Israel. Traces of it can also be found in the Middle Ages, through lapidary treatises (from "lapis", "the stone" in Latin) which granted virtues and properties to gems. At that time, natural stones were used in many rituals, were placed at the heart of recipes and incantations, and the belief in their power was very strong.

It would finally be in the eighteenth century that would appear the first traces of a calendar of birthstones in Europe, which has since evolved somewhat through the years. The modern list of birthstones as we know it today was all accounts established in the 20th century, by the American National Association of Jewellers, before being revised in 2002 by the American Gem Trade Association.

Birthstone guide, by month

Welcome a newborn baby with a piece of jewelry clad with special attention, decorated with his or her birthstone, or make an adorable gift to his or her mom with a piece of jewelry adorned with the same gem!

In lithotherapy, heritage of the beliefs described above, stones would benefit from specific virtues (etymologically in Greek "lithos" means "stone" and "therapeia" means "cure"). Each one of them is linked to a particular symbolism, and we suggest that you discover in more detail what each gem in this calendar corresponds to. (Lithotherapy is not a science but is part of the category of non-conventional medicine called alternative. Currently no proof of interaction between crystals and the human body has been established, only the placebo effect would seem to have an influence on the state of people who have recourse to the supposed benefits of stones. None of these stones, however, can replace a treatment or medical advice established by a licensed health professional.)

January: garnet and tsavorite

Belonging to the gemstone family, garnet is a gemstone whose color can span a wide spectrum, ranging from burgundy red (the color we usually think of when we think of garnet) to intense green (the color of tsavorite, which is actually... a garnet!), to a wide range of purple, pink, orange, and yellow hues. Garnet is considered to be an anchoring and invigorating stone, which is said to help one face obstacles by bringing energy, courage and confidence.

February: amethyst

Crystalline gemstone, amethyst is a fine stone that can range in color from almost pink mauve to deep purple. Believed to bring clarity of mind, calming nervousness and stress, it is also a stone associated with concentration, which is said to promote nervous balance. Why amethyst in February? Legend has it that it is related to the fact that it was worn as a pendant by Valentine of Terni, the famous patron saint of lovers, celebrated on February 14...

Mars: the aquamarine

Synonymous with gentleness, fidelity, purity and creativity, the aquamarine is a fine stone that is as pretty as it is full of symbolism. Taking its name from its intense blue color, aquamarine was a stone used as a protective talisman and good luck charm by ancient sailors to protect themselves from the wrath of Poseidon, God of the Seas and Oceans. Did you know that? The most beautiful egrets have the Santa Maria designation, which indicates their origin (Santa Maria Bay), and thus certifies the quality that characterizes them. At Lepage, all the aquamarines we use to set our jewelry are Santa Maria aquamarines, just like our exceptional eponymous piece...

April: the diamond

What an honor for all those born in April to have this month associated with the most famous of all gems! Mesmerizing, the diamond is one of the rarest gems on the planet, which has fascinated people for thousands of years. Used in jewelry to give life to jewelry, accessories, ceremonial objects and decorations by all cultures, the gem conceals many specificities that we invite you to discover in this article. In addition to revealing unparalleled fire and brilliance when cut optimally, the diamond is said to have the power to purify and amplify energy.

May: Emerald

As one of the four gemstones along with diamond, sapphire and ruby (all other natural stones being fine, ornamental or organic stones), emerald has always exerted a strong seductive power over men. Queen Cleopatra's favorite stone, emerald has a color associated in the imagination with magic and power, which is why it was very popular for making amulets and protective jewelry. Symbolically, it embodies rebirth, fertility, love and wisdom: a gem full of beautiful omens for a happy future...

June: the pearl and moonstone

Natural pearl being derived from shells, it is what is called an organic stone. Like mother-of-pearl, it relates to motherhood, due to its soft milky color (for white pearls, as their color can also take on a gray-black or pink hue).

The moonstone as for it is a fine stone (because it is transparent, as opposed to the ornamental stones which are opaque), which seems slightly white or even colorless but conceals in truth many variations of blue and silver color, due to a phenomenon called "adularescence". This is also associated with the idea of femininity, and is said to promote marital happiness, intuition, gentleness and tenderness.

July: the ruby

The third gemstone mentioned in this list, after the diamond and the emerald, the ruby is the stone that embodies love par excellence. With its deep red color, symbolically associated with passion in love, it is ideal for saying "I love you"! If you are the husband or the companion of the young mother, a jewel decorated with a ruby seems ideal as a birth gift. And to surprise her even more, do you know the exceptional pigeon's blood rubies? They are the rarest of all rubies, and get their name from the incredible red that characterizes them. To learn more about this gem, feel free to check out the article we dedicated to it.

August: the peridot

Peridot is a fine stone credited with the ability to promote dream fulfillment, attract love and enhance spirituality. It is one of the few gemstones with only one color, green, which can sometimes turn slightly yellow. Peridot is found at the heart of many legends throughout the ages, as its amazing color was a source of mystery and led to the imagination of men as to possible magical powers....

September: Sapphire

The last of the four gemstones, sapphire comes in many colors. In the collective imagination, it is the color blue that imposes itself on our minds when we mention sapphire, but there are actually pink, yellow, orange and even green stones, which should not be confused with emerald or tsavorite for example. The rarest of all colors is an orange-pink, which is called "padparadscha". Sapphire is found in the legends of many cultures around the world, where it usually plays the role of celestial stone. A symbol of loyalty, fidelity and truth, it is a stone that means a lot when offered mounted on jewelry!

October: opal and tourmaline

Opals are fascinating natural stones because of the iridescence that characterizes them. The thousands of multicolored reflections that dot them change with the light, making each stone absolutely unique. With a reputation for increasing clairvoyance, enhancing intuition and promoting meditation, it is a highly prized gem for making talismans, amulets and good luck charms.

For its part, tourmaline is a stone usually green, pink or black, but whose hues can actually cover almost any color. Its name comes from the Sinhalese "thuramali", which means "stone with mixed colors". It is said to be a stone of anchorage and protection, which spreads a very positive energy.

November: citrine

A beautiful, intense yellow that can tend toward orange, citrine is a relatively rare, fine stone with which one associates positive energy, due to its sunny, luminous and rich color. Its radiance and the good vibes it gives off are said to help repel the evil eye and find inner serenity, while stimulating intelligence and concentration. Sparkling, citrine is therefore a stone intrinsically linked to the idea of life and joy, which makes for the most beautiful effect when paired with yellow gold!

.

December: tanzanite

Tanzanite is a very rare fine stone, as there is only one deposit producing these gems on the planet. It is located in Tanzania, which naturally gave the stone its name. Often confused with sapphire because of its blue color (which can turn purple), tanzanite does not belong to the same mineral family as sapphire, and was discovered much later, in the 1950s. It is said to be a stone that will help one gain self-confidence, excel and become better, while developing intuition and sensory perception.

The perfect gift: give a lucky and symbolic piece of jewelry

If we were to remember only one thing about these birthstones, it is that they are all more or less related to the idea of good luck. Giving a piece of jewelry adorned with one of these gems would therefore be a good way to express not only your love, but also your willingness to protect the person you are giving it to, wishing them all the happiness and luck in the world!
