The little story

A legend in Swiss watchmaking, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch has become a symbol of the conquest of space. It has been used in all NASA manned space flights from the Gemini project to the ISS program. Approved on March 1, 1965 by NASA to accompany space missions, the Omega Speedmaster chronograph became a legend on Buzz Aldrin's wrist in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission. To this day, the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional remains the only watch to have gone to the moon, hence its nickname "The Moonwatch".

What you need to know

Presented in 1996, the "new" Moonwatch reference 3570.50.00 was identical to the watch worn by the Apollo 11 crew, except for a few small details such as the luminescent material used for the hands and indexes (Luminova rather than tritium) or the movement, caliber 1861, a modern version of the original 861 movement (itself an update of the legendary caliber 321) that uses 18 jewels instead of 17 as well as a rhodium-plated finish. Apart from these technical updates, almost all other aesthetic details have been retained, including the hesalite glass, the black dial with white accents, the combination of 30-minute, 12-hour and small seconds dials, and the closed case back.

Aesthetically close to the vintage models and with a reliable and robust caliber, it is for sure a future classic among the numerous Speedmaster references!

Package

This Speedmaster Moonwatch is in excellent condition, except for the buckle and two links, being slightly scratched by time. This model was released in 2000 according to its serial number. Overhauled in February 2022, it is thus under Omega's warranty for a period of 2 years. During this revision, the hands were changed, as well as the crown and the dial. All the parts are present in the case of revision. This watch will be delivered Full Set in its original red case, including the user manual, the card holder and its reference card. The only thing missing is the original warranty card.
