Millésime Moon Phase

The Millésime collection embodies a refined vision of classic watchmaking. Designed as a tribute to the great Swiss watchmaking tradition, it revisits the codes of the past with subtle modernity. Far from nostalgic reproduction, Raymond Weil infuses contemporary authenticity, highlighting the structural elements that made the watches of the 1930s so successful: sectorized dials, restrained proportions, useful and legible complications, and reliable mechanical movements.

The moon phase, introduced with this 2945 reference, fits seamlessly into this line, reinforcing the overall harmony of the dial and adding an emotional dimension to the passing of time. It is no longer just the time that is being read, but the cycle of a celestial body, in a discreet and balanced setting. This model is not a mere exercise in style: it is a true aesthetic and mechanical achievement in line with the success of the Millésime Petite Seconde, which won an award at the GPHG 2023.

Design

At the heart of this piece, the segmented silver dial affirms the visual identity of the collection. The construction is based on three concentric rings with distinct finishes: the seconds track, smooth, fine and precise, is decorated with a snail pattern, as is the minute track. The hours rest on a smooth surface, contrasting with the subtly vertically brushed central area, on which a central embossed cross extends, dividing the dial into four segments.

At 6 o'clock, the circular opening houses the moon phase complication, delicately illustrated with a human face moon framed by clouds and stars. The design is precise and elegant, evoking the grand pocket watches of yesteryear. This detail adds soul to the dial, strengthening the bond between the wearer and the watch.

The slender, faceted dauphine hands are nickel-plated and coated with Super-LumiNova®, as are the applied hour markers. This luminous treatment ensures perfect readability in all lighting conditions.

The 39.5 mm stainless steel case is perfectly proportioned. Its bezel is vertically satin-finished, while its lugs feature a mixed finish: polished on top and brushed on the sides, creating a subtle play of reflections. It is topped by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, enhancing the readability and visual depth of the dial. The whole is balanced, fluid and thought out down to the smallest detail.

This version is mounted on a supple, slightly grained gray calfskin strap, highlighted by a discreet “W” signature stitching and fitted with a polished steel ardillon buckle. The choice of gray leather reinforces the understated elegance of the model, giving it a contemporary yet timeless look.

The movement

The model is equipped with the automatic caliber RW4280, based on the Sellita SW280-1. This movement displays hours, minutes, central seconds, and moon phases, with a power reserve of 41 hours. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), ensuring excellent regularity.

Visible through a transparent clip-on case back, the caliber reveals its RW-signed oscillating weight. The case is just 10.05 mm thick, ideal for everyday wear, even under a shirt sleeve. Water-resistant to 50 meters, it is perfect for everyday use.
